Obituary of Buell A. Bortree Jr, published in the Wayne Independent on March 5, 2013:
Buell A. Bortree, Jr., 78 of Honesdale, died on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen L. Corcoran on December 12, 2001.
The couple married on July 25, 1953.
Born on August 26, 1934 in Lookout, PA, he was the son of the late Buell A. Sr. and Jesse Hazen Bortree.
Buell was a graduate of Damascus High School. Early in his life he was employed at Carley Brook Lumber in Hancock.
Later he worked at Katz Underwear Factory and retired from the Wayne Highlands Middle School where he worked in maintenance.He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and a life member of the Cherry Ridge Fishing Club.
Buell loved fishing, square dancing, calling BINGO and following the "Old Time Fiddlers."Buell will be remembered as a very kind man with a great sense of humor. He was a great friend and neighbor.
Surviving are his sons Dan and wife Carol of Rileyville, Bud and wife Grace of Dyberry, Brian and wife Cindy of Oneida, NY and Rich and wife Beth of San Antonio, TX; his daughter Kelly Snedeker and husband Jon of Kenoza Lake, NY; a brother John Bortree of Equinunk; sisters Virginia Wolfe and Diane Finch both of Berwick, PA; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Russell, Ray, Ronald and Bill and a sister Bonnie Corcoran.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 4th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.

HONESDALE - Helen Bortree of Honesdale, a retired examiner and night security officer for the former Katz Co., in Honesdale, died Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at home. She was 67.Daughter of the late Lewis and Dorothy Woosman Corcoran, she was born in Scranton.
She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale, and graduated from Damascus High School in 1953.
Survivors include her husband, Buell Bortree, Jr.; four sons, Dan of Rileyville, Buddy of Honesdale, Brian of Oneida, NY and Rich of Shreveport, LA; a daughter, Kelly Snedeker of Kenoza Lake, NY; three brothers, Lewis Corcoran of Seeleyville; Bill Corcoran of Honesdale and Frank of Beach Lake; two sisters, Dottie Lane of Seeleyville and Ann Black of FL; 11 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale. The Rev. Mark Terwilliger, pastor of the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale, officiated. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Equinunk.

Kelly J. Snedeker, 48, of Kenoza Lake, NY a food service assistant at Sullivan County BOCES died Monday August 25, 2014 at home. The daughter of the late Buell Bortree, Jr. & Helen Corcoran Bortree, she was born June 18, 1966 in Callicoon, NY. She was married to John Snedeker.
Family statement: Kelly was a very special person, she always put the needs of others first, and her needs second. Her acts of kindness were many, she was special beyond words and her actions spoke volumes.
Kelly is survived by her husband, John Snedeker at home, four brothers: Daniel Bortree and his wife, Carol of Honesdale, PA, Buddy Bortree and his wife, Grace of Honesdale, PA, Brian Bortree and his wife, Cindy of Oneida, NY and Richard Bortree and his wife, Beth of San Antonio, TX. Her mother in law, Helen Snedeker of Kenoza Lake, NY her brothers in law, Daniel Snedeker and his wife, Betty of
Cochecton,NY and Lyle Snedeker of Phoenix, AZ. Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Friends may call on Wednesday August 27, 2014 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville,
NY from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be Thursday August 27 at the funeral home at 11 a.m.

William Bryan Bortree
October 23, 1949 - March 9, 2011William Bryan Bortree, 61, of Lookout died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Isabel Deering Bortree.
William was born in Lookout, he was the son of the late Buell and Jessie Hazen Bortree Sr. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
William worked as a custodian for Wayne Highlands High School. He wrote poetry and was an avid reader. He had a wonderful sense of humor. William was a loving Dad to his daughter and very proud of her accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife and daughter, Bryce Ann Bortree a student at Susquehanna University; two brothers, Buell "Junie" Bortree, Jr. of Honesdale and John Robert Bortree of Lakewood; two sisters, Diane Finch of Berwick and Virginia Wolfe of Berwick; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell "Bucky", Raymond, and Ronald Joseph Jr; one sister, Bonnie Corcoran.Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011, at 12:00 Noon at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main Street, Honesdale.
Friends may visit the funeral home on Sunday, March 13, 2011, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Isabel Catherine Deering Bortree, 50, of Lookout died Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in Lancaster PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bortree who died on March 9, 2011.Born on December 26, 1960 in the Philadelphia area she was the daughter of the late Ronald C. and Isabel Helene Deering, science teachers from Doylestown, PA who retired to Wayne County.
Isabel graduated with a degree in computer programming from Maxwell Institute of Norristown, PA. When her parents retired to a farm north of Honesdale, Isabel moved with them and made many friends in the area. She enjoyed cooking and until recently she worked at Peck's Market of Callicoon, NY in the deli section.
She is survived by a daughter: Bryce Bortree who a junior at Susquehanna University and is pursuing a creative writing degree and career; and brothers: Joseph, Edward, Ronald, and Louis Deering.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 North Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 with Rev. Jean Blackie officiating.
Friends may visit on Tuesday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
